Women's Marathon Gear

Marathon clothing and shoes from the running brands we know and love

Discover clothing and shoes suitable for long-distance and marathon running from industry-leading brands like Nike, Brooks, adidas, On Running, ASICS, and Saucony.
Each brand in our marathon gear edit has been carefully selected for its commitment to performance, innovation and comfort – essential when it comes to marathon running clothes and marathon running shoes.

Nike leads with cutting-edge fabrics in the Nike Swift range and responsive footwear designed to go the distance, with the Nike Vomero and Nike Pegasus families leading the way. The just-launched Alphafly is designed specifically for half-marathon and marathon runners with its in-built carbon plate to propel you while keeping your foot stable.

Adidas brings high-performance design and sweat-wicking fabrications at a great price point in the adidas women’s adi365 Running Essentials range while On Running is known for its precision-engineered cushioning and Cloud innovation. The On Cloudmonster, Cloudrunner and Cloudboom Max are all exceptional choices for long-distance training and the big day, while ASICS and Saucony deliver options with support and fantastic energy return to support your long-distance running goals.

Together, these brands represent the best in running marathon clothes and running marathon shoes, helping you stay focused from the first mile to the finish line.

Women’s running marathon clothes curated by The Sports Edit

At The Sports Edit, our edit of women’s running marathon clothes is built with purpose. Starting from the top, we’ve curated an unrivalled edit of lightweight, sweat-wicking running t-shirts and tanks
medium-impact and high-impact sports bras that will give you essential support without rubbing or digging in. Plus our running sports bras from PUMA and On feature adjustable straps to allow you to find your perfect fit.

Now for the bottoms - our selection covers you from winter training through to summer races, with breathable high-waisted running leggings that support and sculpt with handy features such as adjustable drawcords and pockets for your phone, gels and snacks. If you’re more of a shorts wearer, our running shorts edit has you covered with form-fitting bike shorts and 2-in-1 shorts for more coverage in every shade from brands like Sweaty Betty and New Balance.

Lastly, but definitely not least to accessories. A great pair of running socks can make a huge difference to the comfort of your run - sweat-wicking, breathable styles are essential. For summer runs a running cap keeps the sun off your face and your hair at bay.

Every piece of marathon clothing has been chosen by our team at The Sports Edit to optimise comfort, endurance and performance. We look for technical fabrics, friction-free fits and weather-ready layers that support you through every stage of your training and race day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Getting your outfit right can make all the difference on race day. Our Footwear buyer and 6-time marathon runner Lisandra breaks down her top tips to keep you comfortable, confident and smiling all the way to the finish line:

  • Shorts vs Leggings - a personal preference and dependant on where your marathon is located but if you’ve trained in leggings, be careful switching to shorts as you can experience chafing which could impact your race-day goals
  • Pockets - whether you choose shorts or leggings, pockets are essential for storing your phone and gels for easy access when you need them.
  • Support matters - invest in a high-impact sports bra to protect your boobs and ensure to wear-test it over long distances to check for rubbing or chafing.
  • Performance socks are essential - A good pair helps prevent blisters and keep your feet happy mile after mile
  • Accessories can help - no-glare sunglasses and a cap can be lifesavers, especially for those unexpected sunny days, even in London
  • Shoes you trust - stick to a tried-and-tested pair of running shoes, comfort over everything.

Like any run, clothing you wear for your race-day should be streamlined, close fitting and supportive to not get in the way of your goals. This can be a personal preference but our main tip is to ensure you’ve trained in your race-day outfit to ensure there are no surprises on the day.

Yes - in fact, you should always test all of your kit in advance. Shoes, socks and clothes - no surprises means no regrets on the day. We recommend training in the clothes you’ll wear on the day and ensure a good proportion of your training is in the shoes you plan to wear on the day to see how they fare on longer distances, if they rub or if you maybe need to go up half a size as your feet swell with higher mileage.

A bad choice on race day could mean the difference between a PB and an injury - our main tips are; never wear new shoes for a marathon, avoid loose, cotton layers that don’t have sweat-wicking properties and flap in the wind, and any additional layers that are too heavy. A top tip is to dress for mile 10, not mile 1.
